Born in Newark and raised in Bradford, I lived in various parts of the UK before moving to mid-Wales in 1997. I moved to Chirk, on the England-Wales border, in 2015, and now live by the beautiful coast of the island of Anglesey.
I studied Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic and Modern & Medieval Languages at Cambridge University, and after a brief spell as a taxi driver worked for several years as a Chartered Surveyor before returning to my first love, languages, to become a freelance translator. I have told myself stories for as long as I can remember, but began writing them down when a Welsh language course ended and creative writing classes began. I was Welsh Learner of the Year in 1999, and in 2002 won first place at the National Eisteddfod with a short story written in Welsh. In the same year I won the Coron (crown) at the Powys Eisteddfod for a collection of short stories. I am a member of the Gorsedd of the Bards
I am a fluent Welsh speaker and have also been translating for many years from German and French into English; my translations include a number of award-winning and best-selling novels. Building on my decades of translating and writing experience, I now offer creative editing services.
When not at my desk I’m an environmental and social campaigner, and enjoy walking, crafting, growing, foraging and photography (all photos on the website are my own).
